As long term orientated investors we favour the equity side of capital. The long term returns on shares from companies trading on the stock market and the returns on capital shares from private companies have been substantially higher than those on other asset classes. The higher returns have outweighed the risks of investing equity capital in volatile and potentially illiquid markets.

Fortunately these risks can be mitigated by diversification. This efficient risk management tool enables a portfolio to offer an attractive risk return profile. Using suitable diversification one can, for example, achieve a given level of capital return with a low level of risk.

Our portfolios contain traditional as well as so called alternative investments. We believe that substantial wealth with a long term investment horizon should be spread over a wide spectrum of different investments, of which a part should move independently to the fluctuation of the financial markets. These alternative investments which do not directly correlate with the markets complement conventional investments and provide portfolios with beneficial diversification.
